WHAT IS A PRIVATE TRACKER?
A Private Tracker consists of a private site and torrent tracker that provides the same functionality as a public tracker but is invite-only. You need to be a member to view the contents of the site and download its torrents.
A user may sign up and login to the site without an invite. Open registration, limited gatekeeping.
A user must be invited via other users, recruitment from other trackers, or an interview process.
Within a tracker, there is usually an extensive set of rules covering how much one can download, what kind of content one can upload, and what precautions one must take when logging into the site.
ADVANTAGES OF PRIVATE TRACKERS
Members are encouraged to seed for as long as possible, keeping swarms healthy. Many use seedboxes — datacenter-hosted servers with speeds that max out any home connection.
Long-term seeding rules mean obscure content stays available far longer than on public trackers where peers vanish after a few weeks.
Some content simply isn’t available on any public site. Specialty trackers ensure rare material doesn’t disappear from the internet entirely.
Good private trackers enforce stringent rules on content format, encode quality, and metadata organisation. No dupes, no garbage encodes.
THE BEST PRIVATE TRACKERS
There are two kinds of trackers content-wise: specialised and general. General trackers serve the majority of needs, but will never match niche trackers in their area of specialty. The following represents a global consensus on the best trackers by category.
